I just deleted the user joef5052881 and all of hos posts too. Looks like the spam bots have found us. Perhaps we need to step up the security on our registration. I don't know much about the v bulletin software, but on another message board the registration process requires that you answer a question correctly. I don't recall the question, but it is something that anyone would know but that would thwart a spam bot. The question could be something like "What do you get when you multiply 6 by 8?" We all know that the answer is 42 right? That's a Hitch Hiker's reference just in case you don't get the joke.

The question could be:

Whis is the corvairs biggest fan? Ralph Nader

I just checked the security settings and all "human verifications" are set to active and maximum security now. These people got in under the window... we should be locked down now.

Ok, now we're getting spammed in the admin area. That's a bad sign.

I just noticed that I can view the admin threads without signing in. I don't think that I can see the threads from the main forum but still, shouldn't there be a prompt telling me to sign in before viewing a thread in the admin area? Perhaps that's why the spammers are able to post in here.

The administrative area is meant to be seen by all... the only hidden area is the moderator forum, which you should not be able to see unless you are logged in as a moderator.

We simply cannot stop this kind of spam; if they want to spend the time to create an account, log in, and spam... they will.

The good news is that I've limited how many posts a new member can do to something like 1 per minute and I've limited the number of PMs that can be sent at one time to 1 for all new members.. this should slow things down.

Hopefully they will loose interest... not sure why they want to spend so much time here.

Joe
