I've been very happy with the o ring routine. It corrects for fititings that
either have hardened or got misshapen by misapplied force, or rounded nuts.
Also, if the fitting is in decent condition, the fitting is leakproof and
secure with very low force, thus preserving the nuts. Unfortunately, there's
no way of knowing ?which? Teflon is in which o-rings, but the ones I have
have worked since MTBE has been used in our California Rotgut gas.
I've given up on teflon for the pipe threaded connections. MTBE gas just
seems to seep through anyway. And the shredding is no help. I resorted to
good ole Permatex.
