OTTO 4X1 KIT: You will end up with 100% more carbs than you have right now.
It will do little else, so you don't have to worry about beefing up the
engine in any way. If you are in a position to beef up the engine in the
first place, you should do that instead, and you should probably start with
a 140 engine (or a 65' and up 110 with 140 heads). Ordinarily I'd say that
compared to the trouble of just upgrading the heads, the 4X1 conversion is
a waste of time, but since you can't really use LM heads with a '62 engine,
I'll just say it's a waste of money. The 140 makes most of its power with
much bigger valves, and a slightly more aggresive cam. A 140 with two
good carbs will drive circles around a 110 with a 4X1 conversion.

I pretty much agree that slopping 4 carbs on an stock early engine is just
about a waste of time, but popping two more carbs on a 110 engine does show
strong gains. Naturally you can't throw carbs at an engine and expect
miracles, but a 4X1 conversion on a strong 110 is a very good performer.
The typical performance upgrades need to be made to the 110 to take full
advantage of the additional carbs; Dual exhaust, better air cleaner system,
stronger ignition, etc. Nice that it is all bolt on stuff, like the 4X1
conversion.
The 140 (non PG) and 110 shared the same camshaft. A 140 with larger intake
track and valves will have less port velocity than a 110 and thus will have
a weaker torque output until, around 3,000 to 3,500 rpm. The larger valve
area and ports on a 140 yields its higher output with the additional
fuel/air available of the secondaries. A 140 running only two carbs will
run out of steam about the same RPM and any other small valve, two carb
engine. Given the above, a properly tuned 110 with a 4X1 conversion will
easily hold its own against a two carb 140 and in most cases will pack it
away.
Cheers!
