Re: <VV> Ignition combos
This is the only problem with the Allison design. The
spiral slots in the shutter are set for several point
locations. The fix is relatively simple. The distributor
turns clockwise, so mechanical and vacuum advance is counter
clockwise. With no distributor advance the trailing edge of
the rotor should be aligned with the clockwise edge of the
cap pin. As the advance comes in the rotor will move
counterclockwise ( relative firing wise) and at full advance
( 22 deg total at the distributor), the leading edge of the
rotor will be in alignment with the counterclockwise edge of
the cap pin.
I use a old cap with a section cut out. With the
ignition on, engine not running, and the coil wire grounded;
turn the distributor until it sparks. Note the position of
the rotor. Moving the optical pickup toward the shutter
will advance the rotor before firing. Moving it away will
retard it. The metal support for the optical pickup may
also be bent left or right. It usually only needs a little
adjustment. Usually about 1/2 what you think is necessary.
Also consider brass contact cap pins ( Accel, Clark's, Lon's
), as with the current flow across the gap is about three
times what you had with stock. Widening the spark plug gap
will also decrease the current flow across the gap. Good
luck.
