I definitely agree, but a more urgent restriction on earlies is the wheel
well size, particularly sedans! I think that the 185-70 looks a little
dinky on lates, but really good on earlies. I guess it's the proportions of
the wheel well to the tire.
I run 185-80s on my '65.
