several years ago because I all but threatened him if he put the 389 in
it. He was 18 or so and flush with dollars so he decided to build the
ultimate killer Corvair. The plan was to build a "New" engine with late
turbo, wild cam and 389 rear for street dragging. I tried to explain to
him that it would likely make a poor street racer with a Turbo and a 389
would kill it. What can I say, he was 18. I literally begged him to
use a 327 if he really wanted to enjoy the turbo experience but like I
said, he was 18. When he finished it up he let me drive it. The poor
thing made lots of noise but didn't go anywhere. It finally started
boosting at about 60 in forth gear and ran out of revs at about 80. It
probibly could have been made to run better but it was the most
missmatched and dissapointing machine I ever drove.
